Dr Sallie Cowan B App Sc (Physio) Grad Dip (Manip Physio) PhD (Director)

Sallie a founding director of Clifton Hill Physiotherapy is a highly experienced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and Senior Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. She is internationally recognised as a leading clinician, researcher and educator in the diagnosis and management of anterior knee pain. Sallie also has a particular interest in spinal pain and has post graduate qualifications in Manipulative Physiotherapy. In addition she has many years experience working with sporting teams and athletes.

Sallie is a regular lecturer and supervisor to post-graduate physiotherapy students at the University of Melbourne. She has over 30 publications in international peer reviewed journals and has co-authored two book chapters on anterior knee pain including in the most popular sports medicine text of all time. Sallie has been invited to speak both Nationally and Internationally on the topic of knee pain, and has received numerous awards for her research.

Jennifer Langford B App Sc (Physio) Post Grad Cert Physio (Continence & Womens Health) (Director)

Jennifer a founding Director of Clifton Hill Physiotherapy graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 1992 and has post graduate qualifications in Continence and Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation from the University of Melbourne. A regular clinical supervisor and lecturer to postgraduate students, Jennifer has a special interest in women’s and men’s pelvic health, particularly pelvic pain, vulvodynia and continence.

Jennifer has extensive experience working in hospitals and private practice in Melbourne and the UK. She   has worked for many years managing sporting, spinal and musculoskeletal conditions, and has worked with numerous football clubs as team physiotherapist.Currently in her 14th year as senior clinician in a continence clinic, Jennifer understands the impact of bladder and bowel dysfunction on men, women and children. She has also worked in a multi-disciplinary pain clinic and has a passion for  management of persistent pelvic pain.

Brendan EganBrendan Egan B App Sc (Physio) Grad Cert (Health Services Management) MBA

Brendan is an experienced paediatric Physiotherapist having spent over sixteen years working at the Royal Children’s Hospital treating children and adolescents with a range of conditions. He has presented at national and international conferences and is co-author and editor of a book on sporting choices for boys with Haemophilia.

Brendan’s particular expertise is paediatric musculoskeletal issues such as anterior knee pain and sporting injuries, however he also has many years experience treating children with persistent pain, haemophilia and juvenile arthritis. Other interests include advising families on developmental issues regarding concerns such as flat feet, knock knees and torticollis/wry neck. Children and adolescents requiring rehabilitation following trauma, fractures and surgery would also benefit from Brendan’s expertise and also has experience with complex conditions such as scoliosis and burns management.

Brendon Haslam B AppSc (Physio) M Physio (Neurological)

PhD candidate, Florey Institute of Neurosciences and Mental Health (Universtity of Melbourne)

Brendon completed his initial physiotherapy training in Adelaide, and completed his Masters in Neurological Physiotherapy in Melbourne.  He has a special interest and extensive experience in the areas of pain management and neurological physiotherapy, both in Australia and the UK.  Brendon has undertaken a wide range of additional training, including Graded Motor Imagery (GMI), Vestibular Rehabilitation, Bobath facilitation of normal movement, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), Neurodynamics and Electrical Stimulation.

He is a faculty member of the Neuro Orthopaedic Institute  (www.noigroup.com), an international organisation responsible for presenting over 100 courses on pain worldwide.  He has co-written and presents the NOI course “Pain, Plasticity & Rehabilitation”, aimed at clinicians treating patients with neurological dysfunction and pain, and was involved in the curriculum development of the newly expanded “Graded Motor Imagery” 2 day course.  Brendon has taught  physiotherapists at post graduate level since 2002, nationally and internationally. He has regularly been involved in postgraduate physiotherapy education as both lecturer and clinical supervisor for the University of Melbourne Master of Physiotherapy course as well as the Australian Physiotherapy Association in specialty courses of neurological physiotherapy.

Brendon is a senior clinician in neurological and pain management rehabilitation. He commenced his PhD in 2012 at the Florey Institute of Neurosciences and Mental Health (Melbourne Brain Centre, University of Melbourne) investigating pain treatments of stroke patients, utilising Sensory Retraining and Graded Motor Imagery.

Cathy Derham B Physio (Hons) M Physio (Sports Physio)

Cathy completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honors in 2001 and Masters of Sports Physiotherapy in 2008.  She has extensive experience in treating patients with sporting injuries, musculoskeletal conditions, and following orthopaedic procedures.  This experience has been gained through work in both private practice and hospital settings in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Cathy has provided Physiotherapy coverage at sporting events including the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006, and Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010.  She has also been the Physiotherapist for Netball and Hockey State Level Teams, and has particular interests in a range of other sports including Alpine Disciplines (World Cup Series 2012), Running, Triathlons, Football Codes and Gymnastics.  She is currently involved in teaching undergraduate physiotherapists at Monash University.

Cathy is our Clinical Pilates instructor running boutique mat based classes. She is currently completing her post graduate Polestar Pilates training.

Josh Heerey B Physio

Josh graduated from physiotherapy in 2008 and is currently completing his Masters of Sports Physiotherapy at Latrobe University. He has worked in public and private hospitals as well as private practice.

He is a keen soccer player and is currently providing physiotherapy services for the Fitzroy Football Club. He has completed numerous continuing education courses and has a keen interest in sporting rehabilitation. Josh has a particular interest in shoulder management and is building his clinical expertise in this area.

Paul Jackson M Physio B App Sc (Human Movement)

Paul joins us from WA where he completed his Masters of Physiotherapy at Curtin University. He has special expertise in exercise prescription, having also completed his Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement) degree at RMIT in 2007.

Paul developed his passion for physiotherapy when working at the Austin Hospital in the community rehabilitation centre. He has an interest in sports physiotherapy, having spent time working with the South Dragons NBL Basketball team during their preseason training , and now providing physiotherapy to the Fitzroy Football Club with Josh.  Paul has a thorough understanding of exercise prescription, optimising end stage rehabilitation for his clients. In his spare time Paul enjoys surfing and basketball.

Caitlin Farmer B Physio Grad Cert Musculoskeletal Physio M Musculoskeletal Physio

Caitlin graduated from Latrobe University in 2000 and completed her post-graduate Masters degree in Musculoskeletal physiotherapy in 2011. She has worked as a physiotherapist in Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada in a variety of settings including outpatients and the emergency department. She currently teaches other physiotherapists and medical professionals in a number of areas.

Caitlin has had many years experience in treating sports injuries and has been a physiotherapist for football, netball and elite wheelchair and juniors tennis. She has a particular interest in chronic and complex pain, movement dysfunction and muscle imbalance and takes an evidence-based, holistic and functional approach to her patients.

Nevine Eskander B App Sc (Physio) Post Grad Cert Physio (Continence & Women’s Health)

Nevine Eskander brings with her over 18 years of clinical experience in both private practice and public and private hospital settings both in Victoria and the UK. Nevine has a comprehensive, individualised and holistic approach to her assessment and treatment.

Nevine has a Post Graduate certificate in Continence and Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy from  Melbourne University, and has special training and extensive experience with vestibular problems including vertigo, BPPV, labyrinthitis, whiplash and in the treatment & prevention of falls. She is currently affiliated with Melbourne University TELKO research for osteoarthritis of the knee.

Nevine offers extensive experience in a broad range of conditions including; continence management (women and men); pelvic organ prolapse management; pessary prescription; pelvic & sacro-iliac pain; balance disorders; diabetes prevention programs; functional restoration programs for Chronic Low Back Pain; vestibular & neurological rehabilitation; and orthotic prescription for lower limb biomechanical problems. Passionate about holistic care and a comprehensive approach, Nevine ensures an individualised treatment program aimed at addressing the cause and improving quality of life.

Julianne Pegler B Physio Post Grad Cert Public Health

Post Grad Cert (Paediatric Orthopaedic Physiotherapy)  

Julianne is an experienced Paediatric Physiotherapist, having worked over 9 years at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, treating babies andImage 2 children with a wide range of conditions.  Julianne has also worked in Early Childhood Intervention Services and school settings, supporting children’s physical development and gross motor skills in the pre-school and school years.

Julianne’s expertise is in Paediatric Orthopaedic Physiotherapy, providing assessment and treatment to young babies with concerns regarding head shape, torticollis, developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), and positional talipes.Juliane is also experienced in  providing assessment and treatment to children with in-toeing gait, flat feet, ankle problems, knee conditions, spinal problems and pain.  Julianne has experience treating children with neurological conditions, respiratory issues, orthopaedic surgery and general de-conditioning after acute illness.

As part of her work at Royal Children’s Hospital and her involvement with the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA), Julianne has provides education to other Physiotherapists on Plagiocephaly, Torticollis and Neurological conditions.

 Liz Hulst, Myotherapist

Liz graduated from Melbourne Institute of Massage Therapy with an Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy. She completed Cert 4 as Dux and Diploma of Remedial Massage with first class Honours.Liz has a strong interest in maintaining muscular integrity for sporting performance and recovery, and has worked as Myotherapist to sporting clubs including the Carlton Cricket Club and Yarra Triathlon Club (events).

Her passion is working with Fascia and Trigger Points, which are a common cause of muscular pain. Liz also has a passion for Myofascial Release, Sorts Massage, Relaxation Massage and Mobilisation.Liz has developed a keen interest in working with athletes as she  has a strong a sporting history as a state level swimmer herself.
